Manipur High Court celebrates 5th anniversary

Senapati, March, 24, 2018 (DIO): As part of the 5th anniversary celebration of the High Court of Manipur a One Day Legal Awareness programme was organised under the sponsorship of Manipur Legal Services Authority at Mount Everest Higher Secondary School, Taphou, Senapati.

Speaking as the Chief Guest Justice Shri Kh. Nobin Singh reiterates the needs of knowing the laws of the land. He said that ignorance of law is not an excuse. Everyone needs to be aware of the laws in order to take the benefits provided under various acts passed by the government. Lack of awareness also hinders in bringing justice for all. He further said that Legal Services Act had been enacted in order to provide free legal services to the people, with an aim for ‘Justice for all’ as envisage in the Preamble of the Constitution of our Country. As there are only three legal clinics at Senapati Districts at present, he further asked the people of the district to come forward to open more legal services clinics in the district and assured his full support in doing so.

As the resource person of program Shri I. Bikramjit, Advocate, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Imphal East, delivered his lecture on the topic “Laws related to Children”. The occasion was also graced by Smt. A. Noutuneshwari Devi, District Session Judge, Senapati, Smt. Th. Sobhana Devi, Vice president Bar Council of Manipur, Smt. Momota Oinam , Addl. Advocate General, Shri. H. Chandrajit Sharma, President, Bar Council of Manipur and Shri. H.S.Paonam, President, High Court Bar Association, Manipur.

Earlier as part of the celebration a Free Legal Services Camp was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Shri Kh. Nobin Singh at the Mini stadium, Senapati. The free legal services camp was organised by the District Legal Services Authority, Senapati. Various Departments of the Districts including Agiculture Departments, Forest Departments, Horticulture Departments, Health Departments and Social Welfare Department took part in the camp and provided information on various schemes provided under each Department. A free medical camp was also organised at the venue as part of the celebration.
