Fir already lodged, man arrested in forged cheque drawal authority case: Biswajit
IMPHAL, April 4, 2018 (DIPR): The Public Works Department had already lodged an FIR regarding the forged Cheque Drawal Authority, Works Minister Shri ThongamBiswajit Singh told media persons this afternoon.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of his New Secretariat office, Minister Biswajit, who is also the government spokesperson, said that instead of demanding the Chief Minister’s resignation, we should laud the present government under him.
Shri Biswajit said that the arrest of a suspect was possible only because the department and the government have been pro-active under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri NongthombamBiren Singh. The arrested suspect has been remanded to further police custody since the matter may require further investigation, he said. We also need to investigate whether the matter is a one off case or a continuing work of a gang involved in such forgery, he added.
He said following suspicion raised by concerned authorities of the Works Department against some Cheque Drawal Authority letters, the department consulted with the Finance department because it involved financial matters. At the same time, the department had also ceased all CDA cheque encashment without proper checking and verification.
Concerned over the suspicion of certain persons trying to draw government funds with the help of forged CDA letters, the PWD and the Finance department had lodged separate FIRs, he said.
Stating that there is no question of the State exchequer losing money because of the forged cheques, Shri Biswajit said that all funds in the bank have been blocked and at the same time the few which may be released were against already executed works.
Minister Biswajit also said that it is wrong to point accusing fingers at the government and try to mislead the public against the government.
The press conference was also attended by Principal Secretary Shri MH Khan, Chief Engineer Shri Kh.Temba and other officials of the department.
