Manipur meets Mayamar’s Sagaing region

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 6, 2018: A consultative meeting between Manipur and Myanmar’s Sagiang Region was held yesterday and discussed on the issues of promotion of trade and investment with academic exchange.

The meeting was held at the conference room of the chief minister of Sagaing Region.

Manipur was represented by economists, professor Ch. Priyoranjan and professor Amar Yumnam of Manipur University.

The Sagiang (Mynamar) side was represented by rector, Monya University professor Soe Win and head of Monya University of Economics professor Aung Kyaw.

Director of general administration, Sagaing Region and officials of the customs and immigration were also present.

The meeting agreed to create an atmosphere of academic exchange with Myanmar and Manipur. The Sagaing Region government favoured to consider the idea of gormation of Sagaing – Manipur Development Committee / Forum and pursue it with the Myanmar and Manipur governments.

Both sides agreed to plan together for enhancing trade in goods, service and investment.

It agreed that the nature of trade taking place between Sagaing – Manipur is facing numerous problems which demand immediate attention.

As suggested by the directorate of Sagaing Region government for facilitating normal trade between the two regions it was resolved to take up immediate construction of border pillar number 77, 78 and 79. It was also pursued to adjust and negotiate with insurgents.

It also discussed to take up initiatives for regional and communication development on both sides.
