DESAM lock education department

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 7, 2018: Volunteers of Democratic Students’ Alliance Manipur (DESAM) today locked the directorate of education (schools) demanding the government to stop interfering in transfer and posting of teachers.

The student body demanded the education minister Th. Radheshyam and director of the department Th. Kirankumar to step down.

Secretary general, DESAM Sheetal Oinam alleged that as soon as the department notifies transfer and utilisation orders,  DO letters from the MLAs and ministers reach the office very fast, which makes the department fail to conduct its procedures. The department cancels its transfer orders on the next day, he added.

The students demanded to make education a disturbance free zone.

“The ministers and MLAs are acting against the government’s slogan to root out corruption from the state. What can the government do for the students in the state when the government breaks its principle?” he added.

We have tabled memorandums to the minister and the director urging to take action against to those teachers who fails to report at the schools after their transfer order. Instead of taking up appropriate measures, the director is pressed to cancel the transfer orders, said the student leader.

Volunteers of the student body thronged at the directorate office building. Security personnel tried to stop them, but the students managed to break into the office of the director.

The director was not at the office. They locked the department building and waited for the director. The students staged a sit-in.
