Sekmai Protection Committee complains over CHC construction

Community Health Centre (CHC), Sekmai

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 14, 2018: Sekmai Protection Committee (SPC) has urged the government that Sekmai Community Health Centre (CHC) should not be inaugurated with renovation as the construction does not maintain quality.

President of Sekmai Protection Committee (SPC), Angom Rajesh told reporters that the construction of fifty bedded Sekmai CHC was started in the year 2010 and continued construction in 2017 after a long gap.

He said most of the structures are partially affected and most of the pillars stand without skeleton.

At the time of construction SPC urged the concerned contractor to build the hospital by maintaining its appropriate quality.

On January 6, SPC members, Awang Sekmai Advance Women Society, Awang Sekmai Scheduled Caste Development Commitee, chairperson of Sekmai Nagar Panchayat including Councillors of the area, medical officer in-charge of sekmai CHC, the contractor and local MLA Heisnam Dingo inspected the condition of CHC.

Dingo instructed the contractor to re-construct the defected portions.

The contractor used thin roof top, which was later replaced with 0.30 mm steel sheets after a complaint was made. Instead of re-construction the damage part the contractor re-cast the defected area. And one of the most important is the contractor put steel railing with broad gap which might be fatal for small children, he added.

The roof top of the building has already leaked; the quality of tiles, walls is not properly maintained. He said if the quality is not maintained the health centre will become killing centre instead of life saving centre.
