Muslim apex body urge for Muslim representative in ILP bill drafting committee
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 1, 2018:All Manipur Muslim Organisations Coordinating Committee has urged to include representative of Manipuri Pangan (Muslim community on Manipur) in the state level drafting committee of Bill for Protection of Manipuri People constituted on May 23.
Manipur government’s spokesperson Thongam Biswajit on Thursday announced that the state government has constituted the state level drafting committee of Bill for Protection of Manipuri People. He said the committee will meet soon and is putting all efforts to introduce a draft Bill during the upcoming Monsoon Session.
Mohammad Jalal, president of the Muslim organisations committee said, “We request the government to include a representative from the 30 lakh strong population of Pangan community in the drafting committee that aims to take a unanimous decision for protecting the people of Manipur.”
The drafting committee requires a transparent and minute discussion by representatives of different communities so that the bill would not be opposed by any community in the state. The non inclusion of Pangal representative in the committee is a big mistake, he added.
The Muslim organisations committee demanded that any Pangal representative from the level of legislature, or executives of judiciary or from the journalists or from civil society organisation should be included in the committee.
In the meantime Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has today assured the representatives of Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation that a representative from the Manipuri Muslim community will be included in the bill drafting committee.
Its president Abdullah Pathan said we were regretted earlier, but we are happy to the response of the chief minister and we thank him.
