Slow Loris rescued

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 4, 2018: A slow Loris, an endangered species, was rescued from Mayeng Lamjao Awang Leikai, Hiyanglam, Thoubal district and handed over to Iroisemba zoo by Yening Animal Foundation today.

Laishram Ibocha found the animal on the electric post at Mayeng Lamjao Awang Leikai, Hiyanglam, Kakching district. It was handed over to Yening Animal Foundation.

Slow Loris, locally known as Loudroubi comes under schedule 1 list of the most endangered animal species’ category in India, under the Wildlife Protection Act (WPA).

‘Due to the lack of thick hills and dense forest this animal might have migrated in the truck carrying logs of wood or bamboo coming out from Serou’, said the local residents.

“The animal was very strong when we found it and handed to the zoo so that the endangered species is lives safe in the zoo”, said Shivkumar Ahongshangbam, a member of the animal lovers group.
