Security beefed up ahead of Independence Day

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 12, 2018: Security measures have been beefed up in Imphal and across the state state for smooth functioning of the Independence Day in Imphal and different parts of the state.

Since the past few days police has been conducting cordoned and search operation in different parts of the state.

The main celebration will be held at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles’ ground in Imphal.

On Sunday police teams took up search operation along North AOC stressing till Minuthong, in the heart of Imphal City. All accommodations including hotels and rented houses were checked. Altogether 225 males and 116 females were checked. Out of them 16 males and 6 females were picked up for further verification.

The search operation was also conducted at Haokip Veng in Imphal East. Additional superintendent of police, Imphal East, M. Kumarjit Singh said, to make celebrate the Independence Day peacefully in Manipur, Imphal East police have also been taking up security measures since the past few days and we are continuing the same.

At Haokip Veng, 725 people including 204 females were verified. About 22 persons including three-four women drug traders and others who have no proper identification documents has been detained for further verification, he added.

Similar operation was also conducted at Pourabi area and Kongpal area in Imphal East. No one was picked up by the police.

In Bishnupur districts 53 houses in ward numbers 8, 9 and 11 were checked and 171 persons were verified on spot.

On Saturday Imphal West police took up cordoned and search operation at Yaiskul, where 300 including 45 women were screened.
