Rights activists meet governor
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 27, 2018: A 12-member delegation comprising Extra Judicial Execution Victims Families Association,Manipur (EEVFAM), Human Rights Alert (HRA), JPE, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Tammee Chingmi, Nupi Samaj, UMO, Nongpok Leirgak Apunba Lup and Nanchup Imptal Arunba Mera Paibi Lup met Manipur governor Najma Hegtulla.
The delegation apprised the governor of the inordinate delay in the CBl’s further investigation concerning the 23 July 2009 fake encounter in particular and the other fake encounter cases of Manipur in general.
Chungkham Taratombi, who was also part of the delegation, touched the feet of the governor and sought het help in seeking the truth behind the day light murder of her son Sanjit. The governor assured the delegation of her unconditional solidarity in stopping such wanton killings and to seek justice of the past killings. She also ensured that she would write to the government pertaining to the specific case.
On the other hand Sanjit’s mother filed an impleadment application in the High Court of Manipur asking the Court to allow her to be a respondent in the on-going case of Ak Jhalajit Vs. CBI.
Even though case was listed for hearing today, no hearing was held in the high court today as one of the lawyer of High Court passed away. All the matter to be heard today was adjourned. The hearing of AK Jhalajit’s case is scheduled on August 11, said Renubala Takhellambam, President EEVFAM in a press release.
