Hathei Phanit concludes

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, Augus 31, 2018: The three day festival of the 9th Hathei Phanit, Sirarakhong concluded today. The festival held under the theme Celebrating the God’s Gift “Hathei” at Sirarakhong village, Ukhrul is organized by the Sirarakhong Hathei Phanit Promotion Committee and Sirarakhong villagers sponsored by NEC through EBADA Manipur, horticulture and soil conservation and Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA).

Education, labour and employment minister Thokchom Radheshyam, speaking as the chief guest of the closing function, said that Hathei which grows only in the Sirarakhong village is a beautiful gift of god that signifies the village. Every individual gathered here is all because of Hathei (chilli). The festival, he said gives the villagers a chance to meet and connect with the people from different parts of the state and even from around the world. The Minister also visited the stalls.

Highlighting on the importance of Geotagging, project director MOMA, K. Debadutta Sharma informed that the initiative to Geotag, the Hathei (chilli) has already been taken up by the department of horticulture and soil conservation, Manipur. He said once it is done it will enable to find information related to the Hathei in the internet with the geographical indication mentioning the Hathei’s originating place, Sirarakhong.

The valedictory function was attended by dignitaries, village headman, farmers and locals.
