State judokas Tababi Devi and hockey umpire Napeolan in Summer Youth Olympic Games 2018

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 4, 2018: Manipur judokas Thangjam Tababi Devi who is the lone judokas in the forty six members Indian contingent eyes for sparkling performance in the 3rd Youth Olympic Games 2018 which will be held at Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 6-18.

Another state native, Chanamthabam Napeolean Singh has also been appointed by International Hockey Federation as one of the umpires in the Games, making him the first from the North Eastern Region officiate in the Youth Olympic Games.

Thirty disciplines will be competed during the Games which is being organised by International Olympic Committee. Thangjam Tababi Devi will be competing in the 44kg weight division.

Tababi coach Chingkhei Huidrom, who is accompanying her feels that, judging by her recent performances of the sixteen year old judokas she will do well and can expect a medal. Gold is the ulimate dream but her determination had to come in the right timing and she has the grit to do so. The Manipur Judo Association also feels the same and wish her successful bout in the Youth Olympic Games.

It can be mentioned that Thangjam Tababi Devi has won 13 gold medals, 5 silvers and 1 bronze medals from international and National Championship.

The most recent performance includes Asian Cadet & Junior Judo Championship held at Kyrgyzstan where she got a gold medal in 44kg category and ISF World School Games hosted by India at Agra where she got a silver medal. In the first edition of Khello India School Games held at New Delhi in January this year, Tababi Devi claimed a gold medal in the 44kg.
