Jarnail Singh is Manipur University’s new administrator

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 12, 2018: Former chief secretary of Manipur Jarnail Singh today joined Manipur University as administrator. The varsity teachers, students and staff warmly received the new administrator of the varsity who would discharge the functions of the vice-chancellor.

Singh also served the Prime Minister’s office as joint secretary.

High Court of Manipur on Thursday appointed Jarnail Singh as administrator yesterday. The court empowered him to discharge the functions of the vice-chancellor as provided under the Manipur University Act, 2005 and other relevant statutes.

“I have just taken charge. I will have a meeting with deans and head of departments today and tomorrow to discuss with the academic and other issues. Normalcy will return in the varsity,” said Jarnail Singh.

Before taking charge of the vice-chancellor’s office he was warmly received by the varsity community at the varsity’s court hall and expressed their (varsity community) expectations of bringing normality in the varsity. Professor Amar Yumnam in the gathering said today we feel quite relieved after struggling for almost four month, he added.

The varsity community expressed that they will extend cooperation to the new administrator.

Jarnail Singh told the varsity community “I am quite overwhelmed by your warm welcome. I hope I will be able to help you and the university. I expect to meet all of you in your departments. I will be happy and always welcome anybody who wants to meet me and tells the issues and problems. I assure you I will give my best shot.”
