World Migratory Bird Day observed with a rally

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 13, 2018: World Migratory Bird Day – 2018 was today observed under the theme ‘Unifying Our Voices for Bird Conservation’, with chief conservator of forest Th. Mohendra Pratap flagging off a mass rally from Mayang Imphal to Charoibung.

The rally was organized by Central Forest Division, Thoubal Forest Division along with Unique Wildlife Protection Committee (UWPC). It was carried out to spread the message for protecting the different migratory birds from different parts of the world and was.

Pratap said every year on the 2nd Saturdays of May and October the World Migratory Day is observed worldwide.

Pratap appeals the public to refrain from harming the birds coming from different and far off places by using nets, snares, shooting or any form of hunting while the state is campaigning for support from the public in protecting the migratory birds.

The role and importance of these migrating birds in preserving our ecology by terming them as vital agents of our ecosystems, he added.

DFO central Forest RK Amarjit, conservator forest Joykumar, DFO Thoubal L. Debala, range officer Kakching N. Munal and students from various schools and members of local club organisations took part in the rally.

After rallying at different places of Mayang Imphal to Charoibung, the Rally wind up at Puja Mandop of Mayang Imphal Bazar and later a WhatsApp video was also released.
