Restrictions imposed against gambling

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 25, 2018: District Magistrate, Imphal West district has issued an order to stop public indulging in illegal activities of betting and gambling particularly gaming dice in the whole revenue district of Imphal West.

The order issued by the district magistrate Naorem Praveen Singh said in exercise of the powers conferred under the Public Gambling Act, 1867 hereby order the general public not to indulge in illegal activities of betting and gambling particularly gaming dice in the whole revenue district of Imphal West.

It cautioned necessary legal consequences will be faced including imprisonment up to a period of four months as provided under the Act.

The district magistrate said the order was issued following complaints made from various section of the people that in many areas of Imphal West, with the onset of the festive season in Manipur comprising festivals of Kut, Diwali, Ningol Chakkouba etc. people indulge in illegal activities of betting and gambling particularly in gaming dice till late night thereby causing breach of peace and public tranquillity resulting serious law and order problem in the district.
