Five arrested in connection with October blast

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 30, 2018: Manipur police has arrested five persons including a couple who were allegedly involved the bomb attack that killed a CRPF jawan injuring another on October 20 evening at Nagamapal, Imphal.

The arrested persons were Khaidem Sana Singh, 42 and Yumlembam Milan, 34  residents of Nongren Maning Leikai, Shahabuddin Chesaba, 39, of Phoubachao,  and Oinam Premjit, 42, and his wife Pinky Devy, 33, of Oinam Awang Leikai, Bishnupur district.

They were produced during a news conference held today at Imphal West police.

Haobijam Jogeshchandra, superintendent of police, Imphal West said on receiving an input of presence of strong suspect at the Nagamapal Lamambam Leikai a team of Imphal West police rushed at the area and arrested Khaidem Sana from a rented house at 10: 30 pm of Sunday.

Sana disclosed that he had committed the crime under the instruction of one self-styled major Umakanta of UNLF,” said the police officer.

From his disclosure the four other persons were arrested from their respective residences yesterday, he added.

Oinam Premjit and Shahabuddin are currently serving as president and organising secretary of National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO).

What is socking is to find members of a civil society organisation playing a big in this crime. We the police condemn it, said Jogeshchandra.

Premjit and his wife Pinky were arrested with the assistance of Nambol police. Police recovered one 9mm pistol with two live rounds and two point 38 pistols along with 15 live rounds.  The pistols and bullets were kept concealed in a plastic container covered by earth at their house, said the police officer.

The police also raided the NIPCO office yesterday.

During the police operations eight mobile phones and a sum of Rs 44, 550 along with some documents were recovered and seized.

The officer said it is clear from the CCTV footage how the bomb was hurled while coming on a dark red Activa scooter that possesses registration number MN 01U 9933. The bomb was hurled by Sana while Milan was driving the scooter. Sana is an ex-PLA cadre, and Milan is a bell-out UNLF cadre, he added.

The bomb blasted inside the mini truck that belongs to 86 battalion of CRPF, Lamphelpat while moving along the Nagamapal road.
