‘SAMVEG’ launched

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 2, 2018:  Tamenglong district of Manipur has been selected under the Hill Area Development Fund, especially designed by the NDA regime for the development of Hill areas of the country recently, said Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh at the launching function of ‘SAMVEG’ held at Panchayat Bhawan, Porompat, Imphal East today.

Biren said out of 82 districts identified for development of hill districts in the country, Tamenglong district from Manipur was selected and a sum of Rs. 90 crores has been sanctioned for the development of the district. He maintained that a topographical need based budget is needed to bring inclusive development in the state such as Manipur.

 Among the 80 districts selected for having the potential of handloom and handicraft development in the country, Imphal East district of Manipur has been selected in the handloom sector. He maintained that the present state government has already started providing soft loans to the weavers, entrepreneurs etc.  The Manipur State Cooperative Bank alone has provided a loan amount of around 15 crores to the people of the state, he added.

He said the government has introduced various people oriented schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Saubhagya, Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojna etc. for the welfare of the people. Since the inception of the present government, the government has fulfilled what has been committed and promised to the people. The Northeast region was neglected for the long time by past governments, however with the installation of the Narendra Modi led government at Centre, much focus has been given to North East region by transforming the Look East to Act East. Direct flight services have been started from Imphal to Delhi, Helicopter services started in the state and Flying Doctors would be made available in no time, he added.

 Minister of state for tourism (Independent Charge) Alphons K. said India is moving forward under the regime of the visionary leader Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He maintained that the government of India is spending around 15 lakh crores on basic infrastructure projects such as construction of highways, roads, ports etc. in the country. The government is constructing highways by 30 kilometres per day as compared 12 kilometres per day in the past government. He said that India would become the 3rd largest civil aviation sector in the world by 2020. Highlighting the tourism boom in the country, he said that at present around 84 million people are being employed in the tourism sector in the country.

Alphons said that there has been a lot of improvement in every sector of the state. Manipur people have immense talents and it should be showcase to across the globe. Before the NDA government came into power in 2014, India was in 142th position in Ease of doing Business. However within a short period, India is in 77th position under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added.

Minister for commerce and industries, PWD Th. Biswajit Singh said Micro Small and Medium Scale enterprises are the backbone of the country’s economy. He stated that it is indeed pride moment of the state that Manipur has the maximum concentration of weavers in the entire country. There are around 2.83 lakh weavers and 200 loom position in the state, he added. He said that Imphal East alone has more than 48,000 weavers in the state. If we encourage the entrepreneurs of the state, then we could solve the problem of unemployment issue in the state, he added.

Member of Parliament Ksh. Bhabhananda Singh, principal secretary (textiles, commerce and industries) P. Vaiphei, deputy commissioner Imphal East Th. Chitra Devi, beneficiaries of SAMVEG and others attended the function.
