World War-I recalled after 100 years
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 11, 2018: As observed in the United Kingdom and in the Commonwealth nations as the Remembrance Sunday 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation (2WWICF), Imphal today observed the Remembrance Sunday or Armistice Day with a commemoration function at Imphal War Cemetery, Dewlaland, Imphal.
It was observed as a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the World Wars and later conflicts.
The observation in Imphal marked the importance and to remember those Manipuri who participated as labour crops and as regular soldiers in European theater during the World War-I that took place during July 28, 1914 till November 11, 1918.
Floral tribute was paid by the members and foreign tourists at the memorial cross of the people who gave their lives in both the World Wars and subsequent conflicts with a two minutes silence.
Remembrance Day or the Armistice Day is held on the Second Sunday in November or the Sunday nearest to 11 November, Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 11 a.m. in 1918.
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare of the First World War.
This day of November 11, marks the centenary of the end of First World War year.
The day was also observed in different parts of the world paying tribute to the fallen heroes of the war.
