PHED die-in-harness demand committee calls 24-hour general strike
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 13, 2018: Demanding to recruit kin of departed employees to recruit under dies-in harness scheme the All Manipur Public Health Engineering Department Die-In-Harness Appointment Demand Committee Manipur has called a 24-hour general strike in Manipur that was scheduled to begin at 6 pm of November 15.
Secretary of the appointment demand committee Md. Burhanuddin, during a news conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal said the strike was called following recent state government decision to recruit 658 applicants in 16 departments as published on a local daily on October 21 that failed to include recruitment of applicants in the state public health engineering department.
“Till today no one from the department are appointed under die-in harness scheme while applicants in other departments are recruited,” said Burhanuddin.
The demand committee says there are 197 names of the department lined up seeking for appointment under the scheme for the period of 2001 till June 2017.
We have been waiting for more than these years. No one from the list is recruited in filling vacant posts of the department, said Burhanuddin.
The demand committee members had met the chief minister N. Biren Singh on Meeyamgi Numit (People’s Day) on June 15, last year and on September 24 and tabled their demand. It also submitted memorandums to the concern authorities on October 20. “We were assured to fulfil our demand, but none from the department were included in the list of appointment”, said Md. Burhanuddin.
On November 5, demanding the same, we have cautioned the government to call 48-hour strike to begin at 6 pm of November 15. But till today we haven’t got any response from the government. So we stick to impose the general strike, but by reducing the duration to 24-hour in view of the strike burden to the public.
The strike exempts essential services, religious ceremonies and media.
The demand committee appealed the civil society organisation and job seekers in other departments under the die-in-harness scheme to support the strike.
