4 arrested for assaulting couple

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 1, 2018: Imphal West police have arrested four persons for allegedly assaulting a young couple and molesting the wife at Iroishemba hill on November 27.

The accused persons were identified as Laiphrakpam Romananda Singh, 31, resident of Lamsang, Khundrakpam Jayentakumar Singh, 22 of  Lamdeng Makha Leikai, Heirangkhongjam Sachinkumar Singh,30, Lamdeng Makha leikai, and Chingangbam Chittaranjan Meitel, 28 of Lamdeng Mayai leikai.

They were arrested following a complaint to the police by the husband on November 29.

According to the complaint he along with his wife aged about 23 years while returning from Iroisemba zoo heading towards National Games Village, they were waylaid and forcibly stopped on the way by four unidentified miscreants. After detaining for some time they were taken to the Iroisemba Hill top in the jungle where they were physically assaulted, beaten black and blue and robbed their mobile phones and other valuable items.

While the husband was beaten, mocked and made fun of his wife was dragged apart, stripped, molested and made fun of. They took video clippings of all these scenes. Then they were asked to kiss each other in front of them and they took photo of it also. After all these ordeals, the four miscreants forced them to call their parents to bring a sum of Rs. 10,000 as ransom for their safe release.

Superintendent of police, Imphal West, H. Jogeshchandra the accused have admitted to have committed the charges levelled against them.

Five mobile handsets along with five SIM cards and three memory cards were seized from their possession.

The accused were remanded to police custody till December 5.
