Mandakini awarded Rs 10 lakh
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 15, 2018: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh today rewarded visually impaired singer of Manipur Mandakini Takhellambam a sum of Rs 10 lakh in appreciation of her performance at a Zee TV music competition programme.
The award was presented during Meeyamgi Numit (people’s day) and Hill Leaders’ Day held at Durbar hall of chief minister’s secretariat.
“I came to know of her participation in the competition only when she appeared on TV. We need to recognise the efforts and achievements of people. We need more people like Mandakini to popularise Mannipur in the nation and beyond,” said the chief minister wishing her a bright future.
Mandakini thanked the chief minister and people of Manipur for supporting her. She said it was tough fight for her to sing in Hindi and competing among huge number of competitors at Zee TVSa Re Ga Ma Pa singing competition.
She was listed among the top 11 in the competition participated by 47 lakh contestants.
“It was surprising, indeed encouraging to me when our chief minister announced this reward for me during the competition. I can’t express my happiness to this support of our chief minister. Everyone at the competition platform in Mumbai including the juries acknowledged this support from a chief minister to a singer and I am proud of it,” said Mandakini.
“Through my singing I am serving the society. A noble person of a land must not work against the wishes of the people… Our chief minister Biren Singh is the father of people. He is appropriate to be a chief minister,” said Mandakini.
Deputy chief minister Y. Joykumar and consumer affairs, food and public distribution minister Karam Shyam were present among others.
