Poppy plantation at Boljang ranges destroyed, men arrested
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 17, 2018: Around 97 acres of illicit poppy plantation was destroyed Old Boljang and New Boljang hill ranges of Kangpokpi district by a combined team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur, 5th IRB, Imphal East district police, NCB, concerned executive magistrate along with representatives of forest and horticulture department led by additional superintendent of police, NAB, Manipur.
The cultivation would yield 970 kg of Opium said a press statement released by W. Basu Singh, superintendent of police, NAB and PRO, police department, Manipur.
The operation began at 8.30 am and continued till 3.00 pm. A case has been registered at NAB police station for further investigation, it added.
The statement said on December 15 at about 5.10 pm, a team of Thoubal police commando during frisking and checking apprehended Ningthoujam Johnson Meitei, 24, son of late N. Shyamkumar Meitei of Heirok Part-II Bazar Maning. He was arrested for illegal possession of 13.883 grams of Heroin powder by observing duty at Heirok crossing near Wangjing Bazar. A case has been registered at Thoubal Police Station for further investigation.
On the same day one person Wangkheimayum Kishan Singh, 28, son of W. Brojen of Samurou Awang Leikai was arrested along with the stolen Honda Activa, white in colour, bearing registration No MN012/9670 which was lifted from Panchayat Maning Uripok on December 12.
He was arrested when a team of commando Bazar Unit, City Mobile rushed towards Thangal Bazar area and conducted frisking and checking. A case has been registered at City Police station for further investigation.
And on December 16 a team of Imphal East police commando along with a column of 15 Assam Rifles apprehended an active cadre of valley based band organization RPF/PLA in general area of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai, Imphal East during a search operation at the residence of Khaidem Ingocha Meitei.
The cadre was identified as self style Lance Corporal of RPF Khaidem Millan Meitei alias Bobby, 23, son of Kh. Ingocha Meitei of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai.
A case has been registered at Porompat-PS for further necessary legal action, said the police statement.
