He said the government has taken up various welfare programmes for weavers in collaboration with different handloom corporations, weavers’ centres to promote the handlooms and handicrafts products and the weavers by organizing such fairs in the state.

He said, the present BJP led ruling government has begun to gave more emphasis to promote the handlooms and handicrafts sector as compare to the previous government and even open yarn shops at multiple locations including Manipur Handlooms and Handicrafts Development Corporation, Weavers’ Service Centre, Porompat where weavers can get yarns at subsidized rate of 10% to 20%. The weavers can even get the best quality yarns of their choice, he added.

“Our main aim is to use only the products made and produce by weavers here rather than depending on the imported products to promote our handlooms and handicrafts products,” Rajen said.

Manipur handlooms and handicrafts emporium stores are opened at Tripura, Bangladesh, etc and already began exporting our products as well as to other states in-order to enhance the sale of handlooms and textiles products of the state to other states since many have taken interest at our products, he added.

The chief minister has also spread an appeal memorandum to schools and offices in the state to use only the handlooms and handicrafts products like school uniforms, office towels, table cloth, etc. made the weavers of our state, he added.

We are trying to promote and encourage the weavers and their products in the form of buying their end products by the Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation and even adjusting the cost of their end products with the yarns which was sanctioned to the weavers who cannot buy from their pocket, he added.

To promote the handlooms and handicrafts products we need to encourage the weavers of our state, use their end products to let them aware that curtailing dependency culture of Manipuri society on imported products has come to realize the craft products of our state in the best, Rajen said.
