People seek clarification over bomb threat

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January 5, 2019: Residents of Yaiskul in Imphal West have sought clarification over a hand grenade blast and planting of an IED at the gate of a contractor, Yumnam Tomba, resident of Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai yesterday evening.

Demanding the perpetrator(s) to disclose its identity and reason of the bomb threat the residents today staged a sit-in at Yaiskul. The protesters demanded “immediate” clarification. They also demanded the state authority to book the culprit behind the bomb threat.

“Had the blast killed someone, will it be possible to bring it back to life?” asked Yumnam Bimolata, a lady protester.

The grenade was blasted near the gate of Tomba at around 6 pm. Police also found an IED in a blue bag at the gate. A case has been registered at Imphal Police station.

There was no casualty in the grenade blast.

Bimolata said the blast took place at this very densely crowded residential area at dusk. Those responsible in the bomb threat should clarify. It is a challenge to all the residents of Yaiskul, she added.

If there is anything undesirable on the part of the residents here you can come and talk face to face with us, Bimolata appealed to the perpetrators. She said if the other bomb had exploded many residents of Yaiskul area would have been victimised.

Tomba said it would have been better to negotiate with him personally instead of resorting to a bomb attack for unknown reason.

So far till the filing of this report no group or individual has claimed responsible for the threat.
