Drug worth Rs 1.75 crores seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 23, 2019: In continuation to its run of seizures and apprehensions, Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) once again apprehended one drug smuggler carrying Brown Sugar and Heroin that would worth approximately Rs 1.75 crores from Khudengthabi check post yesterday.

A team of troops of Khudengthabi Post stopped a Red Colour i20 car bearing registration No MN 06LA 7405 travelling from Moreh to Imphal for checking. While carrying out a thorough checking of vehicle, 50 packets of brown sugar and seven packets of heroin were found hidden inside the hollow channels running on both sides of chassis of vehicle. The apprehendee identified himself as Md Ziaur Rahman, 25, son of Basirur Rahaman of Uchiwa Awang Leikai, Thoubal district. The individual along with the contraband was handover to Narcotics and Affairs of Border, Imphal.

In a span of one and half months in this year, 26 Sector Assam Rifles has recovered contraband items worth approximately Rs. 42 crores.
