Imphal city gets special police patrol unit

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Saturday launched the Manipur Police Patrol Unit meant for Imphal city at chief minister’s secretariat.

The chief minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, handed over the keys to Imphal East superintendent of police Jogeshchandra Haobijam and Imphal West superintendent of police K. Meghachandra to mark the launch of the city police patrol unit .

For operationalisation of the special unit, 15 Innova cars have been procured by the Manipur Police department. The unit which is to be operated within Imphal West and Imphal East districts will be manned by selected police officers and personnel of both the districts. This is a milestone for the state police department and will go a long way in improving its overall efficiency and morale of the force apart from enhancing the image of Manipur Police, a statement released from the chief minister’s secretariat said.

Manipur Legislative Assembly deputy Speaker K. Robindro, MLA L. Susindro, MLA Th. Satyabrata, DGP L.M. Khaute and other high ranking officers of Manipur Police were also present at the launching occasion.

After the launch, Biren with a few dignitaries and senior officers including DGP went on a drive in the city in the new patrol vehicles.
