School kids transporters caution strike

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 9, 2019: School van drivers under the umbrella of All Manipur School Students Transporters’ Association demanding a secure environment staged a sit-in at Tidim ground, Imphal today.

The transporters denounced firing at a school van and vandalising it by unknown miscreants on May 4 night at Lamlai Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.

The van belongs to Thingbaijam Sunil Singh of Lamlai.

The drivers appealed not to attack school van and not to threaten the transporters saying that they are part of the education atmosphere transporting the future pillars.

They demanded for a disturbance free school van transport.

Sunil runs van service for Hill Valley English Academy, Phouwabi, Lamlai. Due to inadequate space in the house, he usually parks his van in front of the Lamlai Mayai Leikai local community hall.

“If a situation arrives for the school van service providers to lose the means of livelihood we will take up agitations taking support from civil society organisations” general secretary of the school students transporters’ association Jimmy Tongbram said.
