Children motivate traffic awareness
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 15, 2019: To make aware the commuters and public of traffic rules children staged a rally in Imphal city today.
The traffic rule awareness campaign was organised by Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal in association with Traffic Control Wing, Imphal West with the motive to reduce frequent road mishap in the city.
The rally was initiated from western gate of Kangla and ended in front of governor’s gate. During the rally children hold placards embedded “slow down for a happy town”, “stop look and cross”, “always use sidewalks”, “ keep your distance, safety will follow, be safe, drive smart” among others.
One of the demonstrators Sezel Jain said in the city road mishaps have been increasing as traffic rules are not properly followed. In order to aware the public children take the initiatives to make the people aware the traffic rules in order to reduce road mishaps, she added.
President, Rotary Club of Polo City, Imphal, Pradip Meitram said it is very important for all to know traffic rules with the increase of traffic volume and operational of traffic signal.
Deputy superintendent of police (traffic), K. Bijoy said in the state number of volumes of vehicles have been increasing on daily basis including private and commercial vehicles. People usually do not follow traffic rules and hardly co-operate with the traffic police while they were performing their duties which would be a reason for the cause of road mishap.
Mentioned may be made that full power are not given to the traffic police unlike other traffic police in other states and it might be the reason people do not hesitate to break traffic rules. If appropriate power is given to traffic police of the state like introducing of e-challan and necessary equipments are provided to the personnel breaking of traffic rules could degree of breaking traffic rules be reduced, the officer added.
He appealed the public to co-operate the traffic police as they are guiding the public in order to avoid from road mishaps.
Members of the Rotary Club distributed pamphlets of traffic rules and importance of zebra crossing to the commuters. People who follow traffic rules like who knows the importance of zebra crossing were given gifts to promote road safety driving.
