Drug factory busted, drug worth over Rs 1 billion seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 29, 2019:  A Brown Sugar factory was busted at Lilong in Manipur’s Thoubal district and seized drug worth over  Rs 1 billion in the International market.

The factory was busted by a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border  (NAB), Manipur and Thoubal Police on Saturday morning.

The team was led by additional superintendent of police (NAB) Th. Brinda, officer in-charge  B. Rishikesh Sharma and additional superintendent of Thoubal police S. Sachidananda under the supervision of superintendent of police  (NAB) W. Basu and assisted by Anjuman, Lilong, a press statement said.

The drug laboratory was busted at around 4 am, acting on an information, Basu told reporters.

The factory was located at the residence of Md Matalip, 40, son of Md Amu of Lilong Dam, Thoubal district.

Md Matalip, his wife Samim Pusam, 35, and Md Serajuddin Mohammad, 29, son of Md Ibungo of Lilong Kaleikhong, Thoubal have been arrested.

The team seized 111.915 kg of Heroin Brown Sugar.

This is the first in the history that we have successfully busted such a clandestine brown sugar lab, Basu said.

Brown Sugar have been recovered from the factory. Lime, vice, iron plates, huge pots
huge plastic bin, rubber hand gloves, LPG gas cylinder, white clothes, clothings are
some of the articles were recovered directly from the manufacturing site.

The seized drugs would worth over Rs 1 billion in the International market, Basu said.

A case had been registered at NAB and investigation is going on, he added.

Basu said NAB also arrested three persons on Friday for illegal possession of 5.463 kg of Opium from Hongkong Veng village in Chandel district.

They were Paosienlal Tungdim, 32, son of late Mangsuanpok Tungdim and Mangnu Tungdim, 55, of Gelngai village, Aaron Nangsha, 37, son of Kothou Nangsha of DC Lamkhai.

A case has been registered at NAB police station in this connection.
