Two arrested with ammunition and explosives
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 7, 2019: A combined team of Imphal East district commando (CDO) and Heingang police on Saturday arrested two Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) cadres who are suspected to be involved in Thursday blast triggered at Khabam Chumbreikhong, Imphal East.
The arrested cadres were Maibam Kiyamba Meitei alias Sunil, 32, son of M. Kalimohon Meitei of Jiribam Ningthem Khunou and Thoudam Prem Singh alias Premchand, 35, son of Th. Nandababu Singh of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, presently staying at Khurai Angom Leikai
Kiyamba is presently corporal of the proscribe group, RPF under army number 3208 while Prem is an over ground worker of the group.
Talking to reporters in a press conference held on Friday at the conference hall of superintendent of police (SP) Imphal East, SP, Jogeshchandra said a team of police commando and Heingang police along with a column of 15 Assam Rifles under the command of officer in charge, commando, Imphal East, Y. Shaktishen Singh under the overall supervision of deputy superintendent of police, IE, Kh. Herojit Singh conducted an operation in and around Mantripukhri area at about 5.45 pm. The operation was conducted in connection with the blast at a godown located at Khabam Chumbreikhong.
During the operation the two cadres have been arrested from different places where Kiyamba was arrested from the roadside opposite to NRL oil pump Chumbreikhong at 6.20 pm and Prem from HP oil pump located at Khabam Lamkhai at 6.45 pm.
During interrogation both the arrestees stated that they served an extortion notice of Rs. 2 lakhs at a shop located at Khabam Lamkhai and they came to collect money from the owner of the shop. Kiyamba further told police that about 8 days before on the advice of one Dayand of the same group, he went to a residence at Singjamei area and enquired about the monetary demand which the group had made before.
On further spot investigation the joint team recovered five Chinese made hand grenades, one 36 hand grenade, thirteen live ammunitions of AK rifles, three detonators, three hand grenade levers, three hand grenade strikers, three mobile phones along with SIM cards, one wallet and a car.
Among the seized items the ammunitions and explosive were recovered near a culvert which is built over a drain adjacent to Amway godown which is suspected to be hidden by the arrestees, Jogeshchandra said.
The arrestees along with the seized items have been handed over to Heingang police for further necessary legal action.
The cadres were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East and were given seven days police remand.
