Moreh bandh over killing UKLF commander
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 14, 2019: The Civil Societies of Moreh, Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Kuki Women Union and Human Rights (K WU&HR), Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO-MB), and Moreh Youth Club (MYC) imposed 24-hour bandh at the border town Moreh over killing of a person who is saud to be Moreh town commander of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF).
He was John Gangte, 34.
The bandh began at 5 pm of Saturday to continue till 5 pm of the next day.
The organisations in a press statement strongly condemn the “brutal” killing of John Gangte by unknown miscreants on Saturday afternoon at Ngamkhai Veng, Moreh Ward No. 8.
The very fact that the incident occured at a spot where passers-by frequently use to walk to and fro indicates the evil intention of who ever individual or group is responsible. It only exposes the narrow-midedness and barbaric nature of the perpetrators of the crime. This inhuman act of cowardice by unknown miscreants is to be condemned by one and all as it serves no good, the statement said.
The organisations asserted to join hands and fight against such anti-social elements in Moreh. They demanded that the perpetrators of the murder to admit to the crime with reason(s) within 24 hours and never to repeat such crimes in future and urged the government authority to take befitting action immediately.
They expressed abhorrence to such anti-social elements who are keen to disturb the peaceful co-existence in Moreh and its surrounding areas’.
