Co-convenor remanded, JAC members to let them arrested

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 8, 2019: Co-Convener of Joint Action Committee against the murder of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu, Pratap Leishangthem and another member of the JAC, Elangbam Joykumar were produced before the Court today and further remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. They were arrested in the evening of 7th August.

Speaking to media persons while coming out of the Court Pratap said that the JAC strongly condemned government’s actions against the JAC and the people who are carrying out peaceful protests demanding justice for N. Babysana.  They will not file bail plea he added.

They were arrested in connection with 12 hours bandh at Thangmeiband area and the 24 hours state wide bandh called on Friday by the JAC.

The JAC and Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) in a press statement said that if the arrested members are not released by 10 am of August 9, another 10 members of the JAC are all prepared to let them arrested.  The statement said that government is trying to divert and suppress the agitation and democratic protest by the people of Manipur. The government must be responsible for any untoward incidents, the statement added.
