State leaders shower teachers day greetings amid boycott
Pothasnang News Service: Imphal, September 4, 2019: Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla, chief minister N.Biren Singh and ministers have showered greeting and wishes to the teachers’ fraternity on the occasion of Teachers’ Day amid boycott of the Teachers’s Day by Joint Students Coordination Committee (JSCC).
Heptulla extending her greeting to teachers said Teachers’ Day is celebrated all over the country on September 5, the birth day of Dr. Radhakrishnan to honour teachers for their precious contribution towards the society and the country.
“Teachers should instil in children value of sacrifice, tolerance, pluralism, understanding and comparison and by doing so, they will be paying true homage to Dr. Radhkrishnan. I am fully confident that they will continue to provide their selfless sacrifice with vigour and dedication,” she said.
In his greetings the chief minister appealed to the teaching community of the state to draw inspiration from Dr. Radhkrishnan and discharge their duties, with a renewed sense of dedication and commitment.
Education minister Th. Radheshyam and works minister Th. Biswajit also extended greeting to the teachers’ fraternity.
The JSCC convenor Peter Laishram said there is an ongoing trend presenting gifts to the teachers, resulting into an unhealthy competition amongst students. The real relationship between teachers and the students has been tarnished owing to the present trend of presenting luxurious gifts on Teachers’ day, and the purpose of the observation has been misinterpreted as holding significance only for students from well to do families, he added .
He urged all institutions in the state not to observe the day on September 5.
The state level Teachers’ Day function will be held on September 5 at MFDC Auditorium, Palace compound.
