AMSU demands cancellation of recognition of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, September 7: All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has demanded to cancel recognition of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur immediately and to implement Manipur Private School Registration and Regulation Act, 2017 from the next academic session.
AMSU general secretary Bipinchandra Ahanthem on Friday told reporters that the JAC (joint action committee) formed in connection with the death of Ningthoujam Babysana along with people of the state have been demanding for justice for the last about two months and still the government has been neglecting to take legitimate action against the school.
Ningthoujam Babysana was dead in the hostel dormitory of the said school on July 18.
He demanded that the government must declare its stance regarding the case of Babysana by September 18. If the government fails to meet the demand within the deadline, AMSU along with people of the state will start intensifive agitation from the next day, he cautioned.
The state police also reported that the said school where Babysana was allegedly found hanging has been running illegally without proper recognition. Board of Secondary Education Manipur, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur and education department must remove the recognition of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur, said the student leader.
In the state most of the schools and boarding are not following Manipur Private School Registration and Regulation Act, 2017. From the upcoming academic session government must take legitimate steps to implement the act, Bipinchandra added.
The student body demanded to compensate those who were injured during agitations demanding for justice over Babysana’s death saying more than 50 agitators were injured during agitations.
