AR extends hands to encourage sports spirit in Manipur

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, September 13, 2019: As part of ongoing efforts to render assistance to the sports fraternities with an aim to encourage sports in the Manipur State, Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) distributed various sports equipment on Wednesday.

Based on the requirement of sports equipment projected by the locals, the battalion undertook a project to encourage sports in the area. Sagolmang Company Operating Base (COB) of the Battalion in sync with the Government of India’s initiative of ‘Khelo India’, distributed football and volleyball kits as part of a ‘Youth Engagement and Promoting Sport’s programme conducted at the COB, said a statement released by the Assam Rifles on Thursday.

The event commenced with a motivating talk on the importance of sports and health by the COB commander. This was followed by an equipment distribution ceremony during which various sports items including footballs, volleyballs, football gloves were distributed to the youth of the area.

While lauding the efforts of the Battalion for its initiative in reaching out to the locals and promoting the culture of sports in the area, the COB commander   assured the villagers that Assam Rifles will continue its work for the welfare and development of the society.

The event witnessed an attendance by over 200 locals of the area.

The locals conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to the Assam Rifles for such an initiative to support and promote sports in the state. All attendees expressed their hope that this would go a long way in further cementing the bond between the people of Manipur and the forces.
