600 liquor cases seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 2, 2019: As a part of Manipur’s drive against drug and liquor state police on Tuesday night seized 600 cases of Indian made foreign liquors from truck at Moidangpok Aheibam Leikai, Imphal West.

The seized liquors would worth around Rs 23 lakhs.

The liquor loaded truck came in the hands of police when a team of Imphal West police commandos were frisking and checking vehicles plying along the National Highway-37 at about 10 pm. The frisking and checking was conducted under the supervision superintendent of police, Imphal West, K. Meghachandra Singh.

Additional superintendent of police (operations) Amarjit Singh Lamabam, who led the police team told reporters that  during frisking and checking one Tata truck, bearing registration number AS09AC/0627) was detained along with two occupants inside it.

On spot verification, the two occupants identified as Mutum Romen, 40, son of late Mutum Tolen of Yangangpokpi Goltabi and Chanam Deben, 35 son of late Ch. Muhindro of Khongjom Khebaching.

A total of 600 cases of different brands of liquor in full and half bottles, and cans were found inside the truck. Hence they were arrested at the spot at 11.30 pm and the liquors were seized at 11.45 pm. The arrested persons along with seized items are handed over to Patsoi police station for further necessary action, said Amarjit.
