100 years centenary celebration of Ukhrul Sub-division held

Ukhrul district, October 16, 2019 (DIPR): Just as the Ukhrul Sub-Division completes 100 years of its functioning, a Centenary Celebration was held by the District Administration, Ukhrul with Revenue Minister Shri Karam Shyam and Commissioner Revenue, Government of Manipur , Shri Gyan Prakash , IAS as the Chief Guest and the President respectively at Sub-Divisonal Office, Ukhrul Mini Secretariat today.

Tracing history, Minister Karam Shyam mentioned that out of the South-West area Headquarter, the North-East area was occupied by Ukhrul while Tamenglong was part of the North-West area during the reign of Churachand Maharaj in 1919. Records say that the present Ukhrul district still occupied the same sub-division even after Manipur emerged as a single district after merging with India in 1969, he said.

Minister Shyam also stated that the Ukhrul sub-division was later renamed to its present status of  Ukhrul district after it was upgraded to East district on the 12th November 1969.

Drawing the attention of the people, he said that he can see the areas that needs to be redressed for the people living in the hill areas related to transport, communication and lack of information during his 6-7 times visit at Ukhrul district after his tenure as revenue Minister.

The present Government is trying to fill the loopholes and take up steps to narrow the hill-valley divide, he also assured.

Minister Shyam also appealed the public to give full co-operation in the activities of the Government and patiently bear any misunderstanding during any problem.

The Government is there to tackle the problem in public interest, he further assured.

Minister Karam Shyam hoisted the National flag and inspected the photo exhibition at SDO Ukhrul office during the function. He also inaugurated the record room and computerization of records.

Ex bureaucrat Shri R.K. Nimai , DC Ukhrul, officials of Revenue department and social organisation leaders took part in the function.
