AR seizes drugs worth Rs 1.83 chores, conducts anti-drug awareness drive
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 20, 2019: Troops of Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (S) recovered contraband drugs worth Rs 1.83 crores near Khudengthabi Check Post in Tengnoupal district of Manipur on October 16.
During a routine check, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a suspicious silver colour Eeco van driven by Ginmuanlian Zou of Lhangnem village, Churachandpur district. Thorough search of the vehicle resulted in recovery of 11 packets of brown sugar and 52,000 WY tablets.
The individual and the recovered items have been handed over to Moreh police station for further investigation, said a statement released on Saturday.
Tulihal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) conducted an anti-drug awareness drive for drug free Manipur at Brighter Academy Khumbong, Imphal West District on Saturday.
The awareness drive under the theme “united we stand to fight against drugs for a Drug Free Manipur” was organised by Patsoi Company Operating Base (COB). The campaign was planned in response to the concern of villagers, parents and Meira Paibis expressed during the monthly security meet with respect to the youth of the area under danger of falling prey to the drug menace.
As part of the drive, an interactive lecture was conducted to generate awareness about the ill effects of drugs and to guide them to lead a healthy life, followed by an interactive session in which various queries of students were answered. The lecture gave the audience an insight about harmful effects of drugs on the human body. The drive witnessed an attendance by over 300 students of the school. The campaign was a success in educating the youth on this sensitive issue and various measures to counter the drug menace.
The students and staff of the school expressed profound gratitude to the Assam Rifles for organising such educational drive and appreciated the efforts and commitment of Assam Rifles to the cause of making Manipur a drug free state.
