Students enjoy helicopter ride on Children Day

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 14, 2019: Manipur government school students enjoyed helicopter ride on Children Day.

The department of school education in collaboration with transport department took this initiative under the leadership of education minister Th. Radheshyam.

The helicopter ride will be continued till November 22.

Thirty students from three zones – Imphal East, Imphal West and Wangoi took the helicopter ride on the first day.

Radheshyam said the helicopter ride was initiated as an innovative step to inspire the students to learn and know more about the state.

He said the winners of literary competition held at the zonal or district levels are those going on board the helicopter ride after meeting with the chief minister N. Biren Singh at the C.M’s secretariat.

The competitions were held in two categories for students from Classes IV-VIII in all the seventeen Zonal Education Officers (ZEO). The competitions were taken up to help students explore and understand the state better. It was organised on the theme ‘Know your state’ in different literary activities of extempore speech, quiz or story telling of other communities, he added.

Each helicopter ride is of 25 minutes duration. The ride witnessed the view of Loktak Lake, Keibul Lamjao National Park, Moirang and portions of Imphal. Accommodation for those students coming from the hill districts and Jiribam were arranged at Residential School, Uripok.

Each zone comprising of eleven representatives, nine students, one teacher or guide and one representative of ZEO will ride the helicopter.

The minister expressed that the helicopter ride will help in realising dreams of many students of riding a helicopter and witnessed the bounty nature of the state. The aim of the ride is to provide a rare opportunity to the students of government schools to explore and understand the beautiful landscape and landmarks of the state in a unique way, he added.

The initiative has helped in accomplishing targets of active participation throughout the state, providing opportunity to students of government schools to experience new things and understand the state in a competitive manner, the minister said.
