Indian veteran football team to wear black jersey to supports movements on issues in Manipur

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 5, 2019: Indian veteran football team led by its captain Birendra Singh Kangjam will be playing in black jersey in the ‘Asian Track and Turf Federation International Veterans Football Championship’ to be held at Phuket, Thailand to support the movements on various issues of Manipur.

The team left Manipur on Thursday by wearing black showing their contemplation and consciousness of the present issues in Manipur.

The championship will start from Friday and conclude on Monday.

The Birendra, 65, is from Haobam Marak Kangjam Leikai.

Match manager of the team Yendrembam Kiran who is also playing at left wing in the team told reporters Imphal International Airport that the match will be a historic match for the country as most of the players are from Manipur. Besides Manipur known as sports hub of the country, due to lack of fund and awareness on registering passport, 3 players from Manipur will not be participating in the championship, he added.

He said due to lack of fund the players are participating the championship with the support of sponsors and self contributions.

The first match will be played with United Kingdom and second will be played with United States of America and third will be played with host team Thailand.

Kiran said if Indian team win two matches the team will be playing the 4th match as semi-final match.

He said in the first match Indian team will be playing by wearing black jersey to show that the players are also supporting the movements on various issues of Manipur.

The team has a player formation of 4:2:4:1 which might have some alteration in player field position according to the opponent team.
