IED explodes in front of Vishal shopping mall

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 6, 2019: A ‘low intensity Improvised Explosive Device’ was blasted in front of Vishal shopping mall, Chingmeirong here on Friday early morning.

According to locals the bomb was blasted at around 6 am.

The bomb was suspected to be planted by some unknown miscreants. According to police the bomb was a low intensity explosive device and made with simple Royal Demolition Explosive (RDX) type explosive which is attached to a mobile phone as trigger device mechanism.

It is reported that there was some monetary ransom demands from some proscribed underground groups.

Duringthe blast no causality has been reported.

A team of Bomb Disposal Squads along with Imphal West district police commandos and Lamphel police personnel conducted spot investigation and a case has been registered inconnection with the incident.

One hand grenade was exploded in December last year but a the senior staff of Vishal Mart reported that there were no monetary demand at that time.

Staff of the mart staged a sit-in in front of the shopping complex by shutting down the mart. The protesting staff decried against the bomb attack.

Bomb cannot help bring solution for a problem.The miscreants should make clear the misunderstanding with the authorities despite of the bomb threat, a protestor said.

He said many staffs who are sole bread earners of a family are working at the mart and if the bomb was exploded during the office hour there would have been human casualties.

He appealed not to continue such act saying that every problem could be solved through negotiation.
