Great Britain team beat Indian Polo Association by 9-0

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January 17, 2020: Great Britain team thrashed Indian Polo Association by 9-0 on the opening match of 5th Manipur Statehood Day Women’s Polo tournament played here at Mapal Kangjeibung, the oldest living polo ground in the world.

Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the tournament on Friday.

Great Britain, Argentina, United States of America, Egypt, Indian Polo Association (India) and Manipur are participating in the tournament.

Biren said the tournament is a tribute to Lord Marjing and our ancestors who gifted the world such beautiful game. It is indeed a matter of pride that Manipur is the birthplace of the Modern Polo, he added.

“We must put our collective efforts in promoting Manipur as a preferred Polo destination,” he said and stressed on preserving and protecting the indigenous ponies.

The tournament is organised by All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA) under the sponsorship of the department of tourism.
