Smuggled areca nuts seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January 17:  roops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized smuggled Areca Nuts valued at over Rs 1 Crore  from Sekmai area of  Thoubal on Tuesday.

The troops stopped three trucks suspected of carrying illegal items and  accompanied by six persons, near Sekmai, Thoubal district. On detailed search of the trucks, 442 bags of areca nuts valued over Rs 1,13,75,000  were recovered.

The apprehended individuals along with the seized item have been handed over to customs and excise department,  Kakching district for further investigations, Assam Rifles said in a press statement released on Thursday.
