3 from Manipur arrested with Rs 2.5 crore worth Heroin in Meghalaya

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January18, 2020: Three persons including a girl from Manipur have been arrested with Heroin worth around Rs.2.5 crores in Meghalaya.

They were identified as Thangsiam Haokip alias Robinson, 24, son of Kamzathang Haokip resident of M Songgel, T. Sonlian, 22, son of Paupi Tonsing resident of Zogam Bazar Zenhang Lamka, Churachandpur and Hatneikim Kuki, 21, daughter of Yanglet Kuki resident of M Songgel, Churachandpur.

They were travelling in maroon cloud Maruti Suzuki Swift car bearing registration number ML-05-L-8177 which was intercepted by a joint team of Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), Khliehriat PS, Lumshnong PS and Umkiang PP at Khliehriat around 10:45pm of Wednesday.

When the vehicle was searched 430.01 gms Heroin (packed in 40 soap boxes) with street value for more than Rs 2.5 crore was recovered.

All the occupants of the vehicle were detained for interrogation and later arrested.

A case has been refisteref at Khliehriat PS and investigation is going on.

ANTF, East Jaintia Hills district has been working hard to fight the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the district. In the last nine months, a number of consignments have been sucessfully intercepted in the district and more than 50 persons have been arrested. During the investigation of these cases, a supply network operating from Manipur to Shillong was detected and the ANTF team has been trying to bust this network for last 3-4 months, a release from the office of the superintendent of police, East Jaintia Hills district, Khliehriat, Meghalaya said.

This recovery is the biggest recovery of Heroin consignment in East Jaintia Hills district till date, Meghalaya Police said.
