Assam Rifles Director General visits Manipur
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January 24, 2020: Lieutenant General Sukhdeep Sangwan, SM**, Director General of Assam Rifles, visited Manipur on a one-day visit to inspect functioning of the Assam Rifles units deployed in different parts of the state including Somsai on Friday.
The Army General is the head of Assam Rifles and is responsible for the Assam Rifle personnels throughout North East. The Director General Assam Rifles was received by Major General KP Singh, YSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), said a statement released by Assam Rifles.
The General Officer was briefed on the Indo-Myanmar border dynamics and the administrative aspects of the force. He appreciated the effort of Border Guarding Force in preventing the smuggling and the influx of contraband items particularly drug which allowed will have a crippling effect on our youth and future generation of Manipur, it added.
The General Officer called upon the personnel of the paramilitary force to carry out people-friendly operations. He appreciated their selfless service to the nation, sacrifices made to safeguard the country and courage and valour displayed by them in adverse circumstances, the statement said.
Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Act East’ policy, he asked the troops of Assam Rifles to continue their efforts in creating a conducive and peaceful environment in the state so that the people of the state can also be a part of the growth story of the nation.
The General Officer pointed out that it was not far before Manipur became the hub of tourism in the North East. He complimented the state government for the improving law and order situation in the state. The General Officer conveyed his best wishes to the people of Manipur before departing for Shillong, the Head Quarters of Assam Rifles.
