Assam Rifles seizes Brown Sugar and cigarettes

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 26, 2020: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered suspected Brown Sugar at Tengnoupal check post near Sita Road junction on Tuesday.

During the routine checking of the vehicles, at around 02:35 pm, troops of Assam Rifles stopped a suspicious grey colour Maruti Eeco van bearing registration Number MN01X 9671 at Tengnoupal Check Post near Sita Road Junction which was driven by Satminlen Kipgen, son of Kaikam Kipgen of Boljol village in Churachandpur district who was travelling towards Imphal.

On carrying out a thorough check of the vehicle, 124 grams of Brown Sugar worth approx Rs 25 Lakh were recovered. These were being transported to Imphal.

The apprehendee along with contraband items has been handed over to Tengnoupal Police station for further legal actions, Assam Rifles said in a statement released on Wednesday.

It also said that troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized huge quantity of cigarettes near Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No- 2, Moreh on Monday.

During an Area Domination Patrol (ADP), at around 11:30 pm, troops of Assam Rifles recovered Cigarette packets worth Rs 8 Lakh near Indo-Myanmar Gate No- 2, Moreh. The troops observed suspicious move close to border and challenged the person, the person dropped the package and ran away from the spot.

On through searching of the area four cartons were recovered. However next day in the morning on detailed search of the area 19 more cartons were recovered.

The seized items has been handed over to Preventive Customs Office Moreh for further investigation, the statement added.
