Three held in Manipur for ATM skimming

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 29, 2020: Three persons involved in ATM skimming in Manipur were arrested by a team of Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS)/ CID Crime Branch on Friday.

The accused persons were identified as  Sanjay Kumar, 35, son of Chanda Singh of Sultanpuri, Nithari, Delhi – 110086, Krishan Rana, 29, son of Rajbir of Bhiwani, Haryana – 127032 and Ashok Kumar, 38, son of Balbir of Sultanpuri, Delhi – 110086,

Superintendent of police, CID (Crime Branch) Joyce Lalremmawi told reporters here that on Friday at about 4:30 pm, on receipt of information of one person, suspected to be involved in ATM skimming has been detained by the public at Kwakeithel Sega Road, a team of CCPS rushed to the spot and took custody of the suspect who was later identified as Sanjay Kumar.

It was made possible due to the alertness of one Sagolsem Johnson, a staff of Huiyen Lanpao Newspaper and the local public, she said.

On interrogation of the suspect, he disclosed that he along with Krishan Rana and Ashok Kumar arrived in Imphal on February 26 and was staying in a hotel in MG Avenue, here.

Krishan Rana and Ashok Kumar were nabbed from North AOC, here, while trying to flee from the state.

The officer said some vital evidences have been recovered including mobile phones and documents, details of some ATM cards suspected to have been skimmed by these criminals ever since their arrival in Imphal. The holders of these cards are being contacted so that they can take necessary precautions like blocking their cards, issuing of new ATM cards etc, she added.

An  FIR has been registered at Cyber Crime Police Station against the three accused.

Sanjay Kumar has claimed to have thrown away the bluetooth card reader used in skimming while fleeing along Kwakeithel Sega Road, Joyce said. She requested the public to hand over the bluetooth card if found as vital evidences could be embedded in the device.
