Biren launches online portal to monitor forest produce transit

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 3, 2020: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh launched an online portal for monitoring of transit of forest produces, revenue collection and prevention of illegal transport and wildlife crimes at his secretariat, here, on Tuesday.

He also launched an official website of the forest department.

The online portal launched was http://monitoring.manipurforest.gov.in and official website was http://forest.manipurforest.gov.in.

“Now, people, while at their homes, can access to information on their mobile from the online portal and the website,” Biren said.

The online portal is the first of its kind in the country, he added.

The online application and the website have been developed in compliance with the “Digital India” mission. These have been developed by the forest department, through National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI), a body of ministry of electronics and information technology.

Biren appealed to the people to take full advantage of such initiative taken up by the government to ensure healthy co-ordination between the government and the public for a better tomorrow.

The chief minister congratulated the forest department for its initiatives of developing a user-friendly and people-centric dynamic portal and website targeting to address the public grievances by bringing in technology-based interventions.

He expressed his concern on the rampant destruction of forests and killing of wildlife especially in the hill areas of Manipur. He appealed to the general public to join hands with the government in protection and conservation of forests to address the issue of climate change.

The online portal ensures ease of business to both customers/consignees and the forest staff. It will ensure good governance, transparency, flow of information to the public, hassle-free support to the customer/ consignee and remove their inconveniences, fast delivery on real-time basis, corruption-free interface between customer and forest staff and accountability. It will also remove the scope of illegal elements from using fake transit lasses in illegal transport of forest oroduce because the transit passes will be system generated and secured with QR code.
It may further save and enhance the revenue collection of the state by preventing illegal activities and ensure quick deposition in the government exchequer on real-time basis through online payment gateway.

The department’s website will facilitate the two way information flow. The website has provided public interface for ease of business and good platforms like nursery management system, mechanism for management of wood based Industries, scheme-wise and district-wise various activities being undertaken by the department. The website is interactive and provides many information in public domain to maintain transparency and accountability, which is the focus of the present government.
