Biren greets people on Yaoshang

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 8, 2020: Manipur chief minster N. Biren Singh extended greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Yaoshang.

In his greeting Biren said Yaoshang is one of the biggest festivals of the Meitei community. It is celebrated with much joy and gaiety by everyone irrespective of age and gender.

Although, playing with colours, Thabal Chongba and cultural performances are the important components of Yaoshang, the festival has evolved into an occasion for promoting sports and social participation over the years. As such, it also underscores the spirit of undivided excellence, camaraderie and social harmony as well, he added.

“I join the people of Manipur in the celebration of this colourful festival. extend my best wishes to one and all on the occasion of Yaoshang,” the chief minister said.

Power minister Th. Biswajit Singh in his greetings said Yaoshang which is celebrated for five days starting on full moon day of Lamta, which falls on Monday.

Yaoshang is cclebrated on the onset of spring cvery year by the followers of Hinduism which symbolises the rejuvenation of the spirit of life, young and old alike take part in this festival of colours . It marks rejuvenation of the spirit of life and is celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm, he added.

“The festival should inspire us to forget our differences and spread the message of love, harmony and friendship amongst the different communities in our state. I hope and pray that the festival brings peace, prosperity and progress for all of us,” the minister said.

Forest and environment minister Th. Shyamkumar said, “The festival of colours which is celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm makes us forget our differences and spreads the message of love, friendship,brotherhood and harmony cutting across all the barriers.”
