Inter-state public transport to be suspended in Manipur

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 21, 2020: With a view to prevent and contain spread of COVID-19 (Novel Corona Virus disease) in Manipur and as a precautionary measure, the services of all inter-state public transport systems operating in the state shall be suspended with effect from March, 23 until further orders in public interest.

Those vehicles which are stranded en-route to Manipur shall obtain a special permission from the transport department to enter the state, said an order issued by the state government

In order to reduce public movement, the public transport system operating within the state shall be reduced to 20% of their entire transport fleet across all routes. All concerned transport associations/societies shall strictly comply by reducing the numbers of vehicles under their respective associations/societies to 20% of their entire transport fleet across all routes, the order said.

Trucks and other vehicles transporting commodities and goods are not included in the above restrictions, subject to screening of the drivers and handymen by health department personnels deployed at the state entry-gates and other locations.
