Manipur government orders indefinite closure of shopping malls, theaters, restaurants, tourist spots

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 21, 2020: Manipur government has on Saturday issued an order to shut down shopping malls, theaters, restaurants, tourist spots in the state with immediate effect until further order.

The order was issued in view of the rising numbers of persons confirmed infected by the Novel Corona virus (Covid-19) in India overnight.

It said experts belief that every infected person may not have been accounted for while the infected statics shows rising.

The order issued in the name of governor stated that the restriction was ordered in order to reduce and discourage gathering of people.

The order includes closure of all sections of malls’ shopping complex except the one selling groceries and vegetables, closure of all restaurants and public eating joints, hotels with restaurants service, closure of all conference halls, drama theatres, cinema halls, closure of all tourist spots to public in the state, etc.

The government also ordered restriction of number of people to thirty (or less) close relatives in case of religious family functions which are mandatorily to be held on a particular date as per religious belief.

It also advised that other functions like wedding etc. can be postponed if possible
and if not then the gathering is to be restricted to thirty.

The order said scientific study and data available from the countries who have already been severely affected by the virus indicates that the number of infected persons could rise exponentially and grow beyond control if proactive measures are not taken up immediately.

The information available as on date suggest that “social distancing” that is keeping physical distance from one another is the most effective step that can be taken to reduce the spread of the Covid-19.

Total number of Covid-19 cases in India as climbed up to 271, including 32 foreigners.
